Why this story?

“Do You Trust Me?” is a love letter to all the moments that got away and a celebration of the ones that found their way back. This story was born from the desire to spotlight the kind of romance we don’t often get to see on screen: tender, culturally rooted, and unapologetically full of heart. Liz, our protagonist, is not your typical romantic lead, she’s smart, resilient, and emotionally layered. Through her eyes, I wanted to reflect the reality of many women who grow up unseen or underestimated, and yet still shine.

The restaurant, La Flecha, isn’t just a backdrop, it’s a character. It represents home, generational dreams, and cultural pride. The “Desayuno Chapín” is more than a dish; it’s a symbol of comfort and connection, a grounding reminder of identity and the warmth of Guatemalan culture.

Tony’s return to town is the spark, but what unfolds between him and Liz is not a fairytale, it’s something more grounded and real. Their chemistry stems from history, awkwardness, shared glances, and small gestures: a wink, a note, a plate of food. This slow-burn rediscovery was important to me. I didn’t want a “love at first sight” cliché. I wanted two people rediscovering each other and choosing, again, to take a chance.

There’s also something deeply personal about the question in the title: Do You Trust Me? because it’s not just about romantic trust, it’s about trusting in yourself, in timing, in second chances. It’s about believing that even if things don’t happen the way we once hoped, there’s still magic in what’s unfolding now. And above all, I hope it reminds viewers that sometimes the most powerful love stories are the ones that simmer gently in the background, waiting for just the right moment to bloom.
